Flag Football

Junior Plainsmen Flag Football is open to Girls and Boys entering grade 1 – 4. Each team plays several games throughout the season.

Grade 1 – 2
Players register individually. Coaches can request up to 5 of his/her child’s friends to play with on the same team. This program focuses on a laid back but fun and exciting atmosphere. This program is a fun way to learn basic fundamentals and team skills while teaching parents and children the basic motor skills associated with general athletic competition.

Grade 3 – 4
Players participate in the Sr. Flag league by registering individually online. Coaches can request up to 5 of his/her child’s friends to play with on the same team. All players will attend an evaluation day (Combine) where their talent level is assessed. NO CUTS! Players are then placed in a draft and coaches’ forms teams by age and performance at the combine. These teams are placed in divisions to play in a 6-7-week league. Sr. Flag players will be issued a helmet to be used throughout the season. All helmets must be returned after the final game.

Grade 4 Tackle Option*

In order for a 4th grader to be considered for tackle football, the player must be evaluated at the tackle combine by a board member. This option will be limited to no more than EIGHT 4th graders for the 2019 season.

GRADES 1-4 INDIVIDUAL REGISTRATION OPTIONS

Standard Individual Registration:

  • All players must register individually with the league.
  • Coaches can request to play with up to 5 players to ensure that players can play with their friends, as long as it is in the best interest of the league. Our goal is to ensure that all teams are equally competitive.
  • All volunteer coaches will be asked to conduct a background check, flag football coaching certification, and sign the coaching code of conduct and expectations.

 

INCLUDED WITH REGISTRATION:

  • flag football Jersey & Flag Belt
  • Parent Volunteer Coaching Staff
  • 2 Team Training per week (1 1/2 hours) (Mon / Wed)
  • 1 60-minute game per week on the Shen Turf Field
  • Last week includes a final game under the lights
  • Participate in Jr Plainsmen Night at Shen
  • Grade 1-2 Award Medals for all participants
  • Grade 3 -4 Award Medals for all participants
  • Free Water bottle for all who register prior to the start of the season

  • 1 60-minute game per week (Saturday) (No playoffs)

SEASON DATES:

  • Players (Grade 3 – 4) will have a combine on Monday, August 19. The combine will be held at the fields behind Shatekon Elementary School @ 35 Maxwell Dr, Clifton Park, NY 12065
  • Players (Grade 3-4) will be notified of team assignments by Tuesday, August 20th
  • Players (Grade 1-2) will be notified of team assignments by Friday, August 23rd
  • The first day of practices for all Sr. flag (Grade 3-4) players is Wednesday Starting August 21st.
  • The first day of practices for all Jr. flag (Grade 1-2) players is Monday Starting August 26th.
  • Week 1 of the regular season for (Grades 1-4) leagues begins on Saturday, Sept 7th

GAME DAYS: All flag games this season are offered on Saturdays at the Shen Turf field.

GAME TIMES: Grades 1-4 game times are played between 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm (approx.). The younger divisions will play during the first time slots of the day moving to the older divisions.

GAME LOCATIONS: The league will play games at the Brent Steuerwald stadium on the Shenendehowa campus located at 970 NY-146, Clifton Park, NY 12065

THE ROSTERS: Rosters may hold a maximum of 10-12 players.

THE DEADLINEThe deadline to register is Sunday, September 1 2019. Late registrations will not be accepted without the approval of the league director.
